Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), is a method that uses the adsorption of solid phases to extract and cleanse complex molecules from mixtures. Because it can remove impurities that are highly selective it is employed often in the development of drugs. SPE can also be used to remove bioactive compounds like hormones, enzymes and proteins extracted from plant tissue or animal extracts.
