Minecraft has been around for quite a while in the past, and its popularity is growing however, since its official release on November 18th 2011 more and more servers have grown, died, and been forgotten. Yet four servers have been running with Minecraft over the past 12 years it's been around, some riddled with drama and chaos, while others are a serene paradise for friends.

Position 1 - Novylen

The Novylen Minecraft Server located in Canada is the official name of the oldest Minecraft Server ever created on the 9th day of April, 2010, 4 months earlier than the previous holder, MinecraftOnline. But if you read previously, you'd notice that MinecraftOnline was released the same day multiplayer was first created, so how was Novylen established earlier than this?
Although the server was first launched on the same day Minecraft Multiplayer was launched however, the map was created by rbos back in Minecraft's InfDev period (specifically InfDev 2010.0413), which was 4 months prior to the launch of Minecraft Multiplayer. The server has never been reset. This means that a player could have hopped onto the server a decade ago, created something, and then gone for good, with their creation being the only evidence of their existence. Novylen is far less popular than 2b2t. This means it hasn't suffered the same fate as other griefs, exploits, hackers, and others. This is why many of the original designs of 2010 still being visible in the present!

Nerd.nu was founded on June 10, 2009, first opened just 3 days following Minecraft's unofficial release of 'Multiplayer, Version Classic 0.0.16a'. Survival mode was not an option in Minecraft at this time. Nerd.nu has hosted many Minecraft creations, as you can see in the above image. The server has seen many different gamemodes added over the years, but the most popular and longest-running is the 'Creative' one, where players have no health bar, but can fly, and create whatever they like with their imagination.
While the server was indeed created in the early stages of the game, there are those who claim that MinecraftOnline is more recent than it is, due to the map being reset numerous times, meaning it's not really the same place it was a few years ago. Nerd.nu's Creative gamemode is currently on it's 36th revision, meaning it was reset 35 times.
In light of the server resets mentioned above it was decided that Nerd.nu is not the oldest server, as it's world is relatively new. Position 3 - Minecraft Online Date Of Creation 4 August 2010 Created by: SlowRiot

MinecraftOnline was launched on the 4th of August in 2010, and has been in operation since then. It was launched within a matter of minutes of Notch releasing survival mode. Since then, astonishingly, the server has stayed up and running and has not been reset one time. But why does it not look like the conglomerate of cobblestone that 2b2t is?
Amazingly, MinecraftOnline has had staff since its beginning. Minecraft blog MinecraftOnline also has rules that players must abide by, unlike 2b2t. That doesn't always mean players adhere to the rules however during the 12 years that it has been in operation, more than 43,000 players have been banned. That's not the only surprising aspect of it the global size (remember that it's never reset) has reached 26GB of storage space. That's just one world.

2b2t is among the most well-known Minecraft servers. 2b2t was created in December of 2010. It is known for being an 'anarchy server'. This means that there are thousands of players using hacker-friendly client software and an absence of friendliness. This creates the server's distinctive, beat-up appearance. The thing the server is most well-known for, however is its map which, since its inception has never been reset. This means that many players have walked through the server throughout the years, leaving their marks on the server for all time.
In the beginning, 2b2t had a steady flow of players, fluctuating between 10 and 80 players over the years. In June 2016 however, the situation changed when TheCampingRusher uploaded his very first video. Since then, many other YouTubers have recorded on the server, making 2b2t it's popularity known today. The server hosts more than 1000 players at peak times in 2022 and it's unlikely the number will fall anytime soon.
These servers are not the only servers that date back to 2011, but other servers are as well. Servers haven't been around for so long.
Popularity isn't just a matter of the past. Minecraft Server Lists have also been around since the beginning of time and show some of the top Minecraft servers around. A server list (or server database) is an inventory of information about the server. The information is typically comprised of details such as the name of the server, the IP address, and ports.
